Assistant Chief George Marr
Major Marr started his career with the Spring Lake Police Department in 2002. While employed by Spring Lake he served as Patrol Officer, ESU Team member, Community Watch Officer, Honor Guard Member, and Patrol Sergeant. Once he was promoted to Sergeant in 2005 he remained in that position until moving to the Raeford Police Department in 2007. With the Raeford Police Department he served as a Patrol Sergeant over the A and C shifts and for a brief period over all four shifts. In 2008 he was promoted to Detective Sergeant. Also in 2008 Major Marr was promoted to Chief of Detectives where he served until his promotion to Major/Assistant Chief of Police in 2009.
Major Marr has attended several law enforcement schools including, Field Training Officer, Police Law Institute, First Line Supervision, Managing the Patrol Function, as well as numerous Community Policing and Investigative schools. He is also a North Carolina Certified General Instructor and assigned as the In-Service Training Coordinator for the department. During his tenure with the Spring Lake Police Department he received a letter of commendation for bravery and the “Officer of the Year” award in 2004. With the City of Raeford in 2009 he received a Certificate of Achievement Award for outstanding performance and serving in dual roles during a time of need.
Prior to his Law Enforcement career Major Marr worked as an electrician for Champion Homes in Lillington, NC and as a painter for his step father's contracting business. He is the father of three children and has been married for over twelve (12) years. Major Marr is dedicated to the Law Enforcement field as a whole and strives towards an effective partnership between Law Enforcement and the Community.
